Review: Summore – Magic Pill

The beauty of simplicity can be such a double-edged sword, as is the case with Summore’s just-released lead single ‘Magic Pill’ from their upcoming album “New Pain”. When I first hit play on the single I was greeted by dark synthpop beats with underlying ominous synths. Like much music within the goth scene, this is a track that’s both sad but dance worthy; cry on the dancefloor, you beautiful spooky bats. The vocals are wonderful as well; higher pitched but constantly in tune with the beat with the slightest of effects backing the voice. It’s not overdone nor underdone; it’s enough to add an ethereal edge to the track. However, while there is some slight deviation in the song with heavier bass drops, what you get within the first one-minute and a half or so is what you can expect for the next four-and-a-half minutes. A triple reiteration; while it sounds great, I think the length of the track could have been cut down by a third and still have been just as, if not, even better than what we currently have. Thus, the double-edged sword comparison. Nonetheless, the production is good and the song is catchy, even if it does overstay its welcome a tad. I whole heartedly give this one a good seven out of ten.

‘Magic Pill’ also comes with an official music video which can be viewed directly below.
