Hackney’s Netil 360 and Night Tales Loft under threat following luxury flat proposals

Hackney venues Netil 360 and Night Tales Loft are under the threat following proposals to build luxury flats in a neighbouring building.

Both venues – which operate in the same building, Netil House, in central Hackney – announced the news on Instagram yesterday (January 30), writing: “We are at risk.”

The spaces are under threat following “a planning proposal submitted to Hackney Council to develop a block of luxury flats” across the road on Bocking Street.

“The development will put two of East London’s hallmark venues at risk, as well as the long-term locals who’ll have a six-storey building towering over their homes — us and NT’s Loft”.

Proposed developments would see the neighbouring building turned into a six-storey luxury flat block, which would overlook the terrace and smoking area of beloved music venue NT’s Loft, as well as the open-air terrace of rooftop bar Netil 360.

Venue owners quoted a recent report from the Night Time Industries Association (NTIA) revealing the bleak closure rate of venues across the UK, where 37% of clubs have disappeared in the past four years alone.

“We want to stop Hackney falling further into this spiral for more overpriced apartments,” they said. “This is also one of many proposals put forward following demands to change the plans to avoid obstruction, that have not been met.”

Both Netil 360 and NT’s Loft have called for support, asking fans to send an email to Hackney Council members using a provided template, urging them to stop the proposed development.

“Share to help us stop yet another venue being placed at risk for the sakes of flats,” they wrote in a statement.
