Daskal Makes Life and Death Debut with ‘OD’ Album
Contemporary dance composer and producer Daskal is making waves with his debut on DJ Tennis’s Life and Death label, delivering an album that bridges the gap between club culture and expressive modern dance traditions.
The multi-disciplinary artist, who’s built his reputation working with prestigious institutions like the Los Angeles Dance Project and Royal Danish Ballet, brings his unique compositional background to electronic music with his album ‘OD’ .
The album represents the first time Daskal began a project from rhythm rather than his usual approach of building from harmony or texture. Written over an intense 12-day period and co-produced by Red Axes, ‘OD’ showcases this rhythmic foundation while maintaining the compositional sophistication you’d expect from someone with his classical background.
The production approach for ‘OD’ is as impressive as its conceptual framework. Daskal recorded and mixed the album primarily using vintage hardware including a Minimoog, Juno-106, MS-20, Fender Rhodes, ARP Solina, and Buchla Music Easel. The final mix was completed through a rare 1982 RFZ MP-4084 German console in a high-end Tel Aviv jazz studio.
This analog-heavy approach gives the album a warmth and character that perfectly complements Daskal’s vision of merging club culture with contemporary dance traditions.
