Miami’s Iconic Nikki Beach to Close in 2027

For over two decades, Nikki Beach has served as far more than a mere beach club. It has functioned as one of Miami’s most recognizable lifestyle destinations, seamlessly blending music, luxury dining, and high-energy nightlife on the pristine sands of South Beach. However, following years of legal uncertainty regarding the property’s future, the venue has officially reached a settlement that marks the beginning of its final chapter.

A Final Extension for a Miami Landmark

The legendary venue, located at 1 Ocean Drive, has been granted a temporary extension that will allow it to remain operational until August 6, 2027. This timeline was established through a settlement finalized this week between the City of Miami Beach, the ownership of Nikki Beach, and the Boucher Brothers, the hospitality group slated to take over the site.

The Legacy of Nikki Beach

Nikki Beach helped define the modern luxury beach club experience, setting a standard that was eventually replicated in travel hubs across Europe, Dubai, and beyond. The venue became a cultural touchstone for visitors, particularly during major events like Miami Music Week and Art Basel, by integrating live DJs, electronic music, and upscale amenities into a singular, iconic location.

Nikki Beach has remained one of Miami Beach’s most recognizable oceanfront destinations for decades.

The site’s history dates back to the late 1980s when it operated as Penrod’s Beach Club. In 1998, it was rebranded as Nikki Café in honor of Nicole Penrod, the daughter of founder Jack Penrod, eventually evolving into the global brand recognized today.

The Future of 1 Ocean Drive

With the lease on the city-owned land originally set to expire, the settlement provides a clear path for the property’s redevelopment. The Boucher Brothers, in partnership with Major Food Group—the team behind acclaimed concepts like Carbone—plan to transform the site into a new luxury beachfront destination. The proposed project is expected to feature a variety of high-end dining options, including Mediterranean concepts and Japanese teppanyaki rooms, alongside modernized public spaces.

The venue became famous for combining beach culture, music, dining, and nightlife in one location.

Despite the impending closure, owner Lucia Penrod expressed a commitment to celebrating the venue’s remaining time. “We have another 15 months to create unforgettable memories with our guests, honor our incredible team, and close this chapter with the spirit and passion that have defined Nikki Beach from the very beginning,” she stated.

For the dance music community and Miami locals, the next year represents a final opportunity to experience a venue that played a pivotal role in shaping the atmosphere of South Beach culture.

A new luxury beachfront development will replace the Nikki Beach property after 2027.
