Above & Beyond unveil stunning new single ‘Quicksand (Don’t Go)’ with Zoë Johnston: Listen
“It’s classic Zoë Johnston. We’ve been working with her for 22 years, so she’s a part of the band. By that token, a song with her vocals is a very reassuring thing for our audience. It says: Above & Beyond are back, in a very recognizable form,” say the trio of their new collaboration.
Above & Beyond are back in a big way, and to prove this they’ve not only announced a brand-new album and a huge headlining show at the O2 Academy Brixton in London, but have also revealed the first track from the album ‘Quicksand (Don’t Go)‘ and who else better to collaborate with than Zoë Johnston? A long time collaborator of theirs and essentially a part of the band, as the trio say, the singer is helping to usher in the new era for the trance trio.
“I think most of us can relate to that feeling of desperation and dread when it comes to losing someone we love so deeply. The despair can be massive when you’re watching the grief rattle down the track toward you for quite some time before the moment of impact actually happens. Disappearing into quicksand. It’s scary, it hurts, and it’s lonely. Hopefully, a song like this will make anyone going through the pain of a seismic loss feel a little bit less alone.” – Zoë Johnston says about her lyrics.
‘Quicksand (Don’t Go)’ is the trio at the top of their game. Deeply personal and heartfelt lyrics rest atop a bed of pure euphoric melodies, which in a way feel nostalgic yet perfectly modern at the same time. It’s classic Above & Beyond with a sprinkle of the newness that this era is about to bring, and is an extremely exciting time to be a fan of the trio to say the least.
With this incredible first offering, the tone has well and truly been set for the rest of the album. ‘Bigger Than All Of Us‘ is out will be released on their label Anjunabeats on 18 July, and you can read more about that here.
