EXIT Festival To Launch First Multi-Day, Multi-Stage Festival At Pyramids Of Giza
The organizers of Serbia’s EXIT Festival are planning the first-ever multi-day, multi-stage festival at the Pyramids of Giza.
In an interview with IQ Magazine, EXIT founder and CEO Dušan Kovačević revealed that the historic show will likely take place in October 2026 as a new spin-off of the company’s long-running flagship festival. EXIT Festival celebrated its 25th and final edition in Novi Sad, Serbia, earlier this month, due to “threats aimed at silencing our right to free expression” in the wake of its support for student-led protests in the country.
EXIT Festival, which launched in 2000 as part of a peaceful student movement to remove oppressive former Serbian president Slobodan Milošević, backed students across Serbia last year who have been protesting political corruption in the country and demanding an investigation into a roof collapse at Novi Sad train station that killed 16 people in November 2024. In retaliation, the Serbian government has since cut all public funding for the festival.
Now, as EXIT looks for greener pastures, Kovačević told IQ that the brand will launch the Egyptian festival under a new name that reflects its new location. Musical programming will be “eclectic but with an emphasis on electronic music,” IQ reports.
“When the news broke out that EXIT was leaving Serbia, we got a lot of invitations from all over, from Malta to India,” Kovačević told IQ. “When we do new festivals, we always do a new brand that is tailored for the destination. EXIT isn’t Coca-Cola. It can’t be replicated. It’s tied to the Petrovaradin Fortress, which is seen as one of the most spectacular festival venues in the world.”
He continued: “We feel that the pyramids are so symbolic that this event will have everything that EXIT stands for. There is a lot of darkness in the world, but many people see the pyramids as pillars of light, so we will be making a strong message with that.”
Official dates and details for EXIT’s new festival at the Great Pyramids will be shared in the coming months. The company is reportedly partnering with Egyptian promoter Venture Lifestyle, which has previously hosted concerts from Jennifer Lopez, John Legend, and the Black Eyed Peas at several Egyptian venues, including the pyramids.
Though the event will mark the first full-scale festival at the Pyramids of Giza, the site has previously welcomed single-day electronic performances from Carl Cox, Keinemusik, Kygo, and Above & Beyond. Anyma will play in front of the world-famous landmark this October as part of a show helmed by Venture Lifestyle.
