Hi LUCRE, how are you?
Doing well thank you! Thank you for having me!
Let’s begin with your backstory—what inspired you to step into the world of Electronic Music, and when did you realize this was the path you wanted to pursue?
I began my career in the fitness industry in my early 20s. When I opened my gym, I aimed to create a unique atmosphere by incorporating Electronic Music, drawing inspiration from the energy of nightclubs. This fusion of fitness and music has been a defining element of my approach, and Electronic Music has been a passion of mine for decades.
Who were some of your biggest influences when you were starting out, and how did they shape the way you approach your music?
My musical inspiration initially came from Rock, particularly industrial bands like Nine Inch Nails and Rammstein, whose raw energy and unconventional sounds deeply influenced me. The Prodigy also played a significant role in shaping my musical taste during my youth, with their bold, genre-defying approach.
My journey into Electronic Music began when a friend introduced me to Nicole Moudaber. Although I was unfamiliar with her at the time, her track “See You Next Tuesday” resonated with me so strongly that it sparked a deep desire to explore the Electronic Music scene further.
As I discovered more artists like Dubfire and Carl Cox, my passion for Electronic Music continued to grow, fuelling my commitment to immerse myself and find a path in the genre.
You launched your career in 2020, during a challenging time for the music industry. What motivated you to push forward, and how did those early experiences shape your journey?
My journey into producing and DJing was a bit different from most. Quarantine gave me the time to really focus on developing my DJ skills without the pressure of chasing gigs. With my business shut down, I had all the time I needed to explore new things and dive into music. My first paid gig came in 2021, so the timing ended up working out really well for me.
How would you define your sound?
Industrial, gritty and not the norm. I don’t aim to fit my music into any specific box; I focus on making what resonates with me. If that results in something unconventional, then so be it. Ultimately, music has a way of finding the right audience, and I believe authenticity always connects with those who truly appreciate it.
You’ve already reached some notable milestones, like performing at numerous events and breaking into the Beatport Top 100. What achievements are you most proud of so far, and why?
Every opportunity I get, whether it’s a show or a record deal, means a lot to me. Playing at Rammstein’s afterparties when they were in the U.S. was especially special, considering how much they’ve influenced my music. I’m just grateful to see my hard work starting to gain momentum and traction.
When I first got into music, I knew absolutely no one, had zero connections, and was diving into a completely new industry. So as long as I keep moving forward, I’m proud.
When it comes to performing live, what do you hope people feel when they hear you play live, and how do you tailor your sets to deliver that experience?
I like to create a journey with my sets. I spend time putting them together in my free time, making sure the flow will keep listeners engaged. Of course, things can change on the fly, but my goal is always to take the crowd on a bit of a roller coaster ride, keeping it dynamic and exciting throughout.
Where do you find inspiration for your music—are there any specific experiences, places, or ideas that influence your sound?
I don’t believe in forcing inspiration. I make a point to sit down and work on new music every day, but if the creativity isn’t flowing, I’m perfectly fine with stepping away and returning the next day. Inspiration often comes from unexpected sources whether it’s music, TV shows, or simply staying open to new sounds and ideas. I’m always listening and observing, as even the smallest thought or sound can spark something meaningful.
How do you see your artistic direction evolving in the years to come? Are there any new genres or styles that you are eager to explore?
The underground sounds and vibe have always been what really interest me. I feel a strong connection to the Techno space, and it’s where I feel most aligned creatively. As awesome as that would be, I’m not planning on joining a Rock band anytime soon, I’d probably need to learn an instrument first, haha! But hey, maybe there’s a band out there that could use some killer Techno sounds!
Outside of music, what are some of your interests or hobbies? Do they ever influence your creative work?
Like I mentioned, fitness is a big part of my life, it’s my therapy. I’m always blasting music, and it’s a great way to catch new ideas. If a track gets you through a tough workout, you know it’s a banger.
I’m also really into cars.
Looking ahead, what’s next for LUCRE? Can fans expect more music soon?
Absolutely. I aim to release new music every 4 to 8 weeks, and I’m committed to keeping that rhythm going. I never want to go too long without dropping something new.
I’m putting a lot into 2025, so you might just see me in your hometown soon!
