Snoop Dogg says aging rappers should get the same respect as aging rock stars

Snoop Dogg has said that aging rappers should get the same respect as aging rock stars.

The 50-year-old Californian rapper – who has just dropped a new track with Busta Rhymes – broached the subject in the latest episode of the Rolling Stone Music Now podcast. Snoop, who was born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. in 1971, said that veteran rappers deserve the type of esteem that is traditionally bestowed upon veteran rock stars.

“They don’t limit The Rolling Stones,” he said. “they don’t limit those other groups that do it outside of our genre. You got rappers in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. You ain’t got no motherfucking rock and rollers in the Rap Hall of Fame.” 

“So slow it down a little bit, and start putting some respect on our name and give us the respect for who we are,” he added. “Don’t put no time limit on how old we are or what we are, because we don’t look at the rockers and say, ‘Man, he got white hair now when he used to have black hair, and it’s all grey now.”

Snoop’s comments come ahead of the release of ‘The Algorithm’, the forthcoming debut release of his new hip hop supergroup Mount Westmore.

Last month, it was revealed that Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar and Mary J Blige are among a number of multi-award-winning artists set to perform at next year’s Super Bowl.
