Solarstone reveals his most personal album yet with ‘Innermost’: Listen
With Innermost, Rich Mowatt—better known as Solarstone—ventures far beyond the club sphere to deliver what he calls his “most honest longplayer to date.” While his Pure Trance albums and recent singles like Shards and Hope have handled the dancefloor, Innermost offers space for risk-taking and reflection.
From the opening moment of Shivelight, a track that has been evolving since 2020’s Island, Solarstone sets the tone. He uses baritone guitars to draw the listener inward, establishing the contemplative mood that follows. This isn’t club fare—it’s narrative-led and musically layered, with each piece crafted over years of artistic introspection.
The collaboration with Clara Yates on Your Sacrifice sparked a personal response in Mowatt, inspiring Over the Mountains, which contains echoes of lullabies sung to his son and nods to Seven Cities. Later tracks such as Dream Sequence and Sonata look back to the golden era of progressive house, with subtle references to Underworld, EyeQ, and Harthouse woven into their textures.
Elsewhere, Susie Ledge adds a Gaelic-tinged beauty to Star, while Evan Henzi lends poignant optimism to Underground, a raw meditation on depression. As the album nears its end, Boy and Complicated anchor the work in familial love and emotional complexity.
