The BRIT Awards have dropped gendered categories
The BRIT Awards have discontinued gendered award categories.
The British award show has announced the British and international male and female categories have been turned into two non-gendered awards. Writing in a press release, they announced, “The BRITs confirm that for the 2022 show they will move away from the Female and Male categories, and will launch new awards for Artist of the Year and International Artist of the Year, celebrating artists solely for their music and work, rather than how they choose to identify or as others may see them, as part of The BRITs’ commitment to evolving the show to be as inclusive and as relevant as possible.”
Alongside this news, the BRITs have announced four genre-specific awards – Alternative/Rock Act, Hip-Hop/Grime/Rap Act, Dance Act and Pop/R’n’B Act.
The host of this year’s show will be Mo Gilligan with Clara Amfo and Maya Jama taking on ‘The BRITs Are Coming’ Nominations show and BRITs Red Carpet show.
They’ve also announced that the show will have a creative makeover courtesy of Block9, the award winning set design and creative studio best known for Glastonbury’s iconic NYC Downlow.
