Tomorrowland Belgium Faces New Safety Hurdle After 2025 Fire
After last year’s mainstage catastrophe at Tomorrowland, new safety protocols were required for the Belgian festival. While they rebounded amazingly in just a few short days, everyone was saddened to have been robbed of a beautiful stage design. Local authorities in Boom and Rumst, the Belgian municipalities that oversee the festival grounds and DreamVille camping area, have formally approved a new safety protocol designed to bolster security and crowd safety after last year’s festival fire.
This new framework doesn’t just tick boxes: it’s rooted in a comprehensive risk analysis carried out by a multidisciplinary team from the University of Antwerp. That study examines key risk factors across the festival footprint, including crowd flows, structural safety of stages and temporary installations, and unhindered access routes for emergency services. It all aims at tightening fire safety and crowd management measures.
What makes this protocol especially noteworthy is that no specific regional or national guidelines currently exist in Belgium for fire safety at large temporary event structures like stages. Local authorities stepped in to define their own requirements to ensure Tomorrowland meets the highest possible safety standards ahead of its summer 2026 dates.
Tomorrowland has already dropped its amazing lineup for this year’s theme of CONSCIENCIA. Calvin Harris returns to the Tomorrowland universe along with David Guetta, NERVO, Martin Garrix, Fisher, Miss Monique, Hardwell, Indira Paganotto, Sebastian Ingrosso, Sara Landry, John Summit, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Henri PFR, Kevin de Vries, Lost Frequencies, Agents of Time, and The Chainsmokers.
