Breaka gears up to release second full-length album, ‘Aeoui’

London’s Breaka has announced the release of his anticipated second album, ‘Aeoui’, due to land next month via his own label, Breaka Recordings.

The 10-track release marks his second ever full-length record following 2022’s ‘We Move’, a debut record that helped to propel his early breakthrough.

Aeoui’ comprises both club-focused tracks and vocal cuts, which feature “vowel-only” vocal samples throughout, spattered across several tracks.

The record traverses familiar styles of the London-based artist like jungle, breaks, and footwork, while exploring new territories with baile funk-inspired percussion and influence from South Africa-born genres like gqom and amapiano.

‘Aeoui’ has been in the works for “many years”, according to Breaka, following an initial strike of inspiration for the album’s lead tracks ‘Yolo Bass Rewind’ and ‘Squashy Track’.

“‘Aeoui’ is light-hearted and also deadly serious, it’s evil as hell and also sweet and cutesy,” Breaka explains. “I didn’t really know what to do for my sophomore album, so I just kept trying stuff in my computer until this appeared.”

“Although it mashes together a bunch of genres, to me it feels like a consistent vibe across the ten tracks. I named it after the vocal vowel sounds that I always get made fun of.”

Following the production of the record’s other stand-out tracks ‘Aeoui’ and ‘Are We There’, Breaka sifted through existing works to form the full 10-track record.

The album – set for release on February 28 – follows a string of releases on his Breaka Recordings imprint, first launched in 2019 with his self-titled EP.
