FiiO K13 R2R Marks One of 2025’s Biggest Hi-Fi Bargains
FiiO is launching the K13 R2R DAC/amp, a desktop unit that combines discrete resistor ladder decoding, high output power, and flexible connectivity in a compact form factor. Positioned at $319, the K13 R2R is being pitched as one of the most affordable ways to experience true multibit decoding in 2025.
For producers, audiophiles, or anyone looking to bring high-resolution playback into their studio or home listening setup, the K13 R2R offers a clear entry point. It integrates modern DSP control, supports formats up to PCM 1536 kHz and DSD1024, and delivers 2400 mW of driving power—enough to handle anything from sensitive in-ears to demanding planar headphones.
Discrete R2R Architecture and High-Power Design
At the heart of the K13 R2R is a fully discrete resistor ladder DAC, engineered with a precise network of resistors for multibit conversion. This design, long prized by purists for its natural presentation, is paired with FiiO’s error correction algorithm to ensure accuracy and low distortion. Measurements include THD+N as low as 0.00037%, a dynamic range of 124 dB, and a noise floor of –124 dB.
Driving power is another highlight. The K13 R2R outputs up to 2400 mW balanced, with selectable gain settings to optimize for different headphones. Users can switch between high output for 600-ohm studio models and quiet, low-noise operation for in-ear monitors. This flexibility makes it equally suited for critical mixing sessions or casual late-night listening.
Connectivity is robust, with balanced XLR and 4.4mm headphone outputs, a 6.35mm single-ended output, and both balanced and single-ended line outs for monitors or external amps. Inputs include USB, optical, coaxial, and I²S, driven by the XMOS XU316 USB receiver for wide compatibility.
Studio-Friendly Features and Everyday Usability

Beyond decoding and power, the K13 R2R has been built to fit seamlessly into modern setups. The OLED display and intuitive menu provide immediate feedback on input, sample rate, and filters. Users can select from multiple digital filters, tailoring playback to smoother or sharper response curves depending on preference. The FiiO Control app expands this further, adding PEQ (parametric EQ) for personal sound profiles.
The chassis itself is all-aluminium, CNC-machined for durability and heat dissipation, with details like a knurled volume knob designed for precision. Low-noise regulators and dual power supplies add stability, while premium capacitors and resistors anchor the R2R ladder. Despite the internal complexity, the form factor remains compact at under 1kg, suitable for a desktop or bedside rig.
For producers, the K13 R2R represents an accessible way to evaluate mixes on a high-end DAC without committing to multi-thousand-dollar gear. For listeners, it provides a long-term upgrade path, working equally well with laptops, streamers, or a complete hi-fi system when paired with FiiO’s DM13 CD player and SP5 speakers.
The FiiO K13 R2R is available this September through authorized retailers, priced at £279, $319, and €319.
