Madeon Debuts New Single at LA Performance Art Pop Up

This summer flew by. Festival season is over. I mean, the Tomorrowland stage fire seems like it was ages ago already. Along with all of that, Madeon’s last project, Good Faith, debuted over 7 years ago. So as much as time feels like it’s passing by, it’s finally the moment for the French producer to give us a taste of what he’s been working on since he took his Gap Year break.

Back in March, Hugo Leclercq informed the world that he would be debuted his next era’s sound with a full on show at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Denver, CO. However, no other information was provided except the black and white poster for the event. Out of the blue last week, Madeon began posting on his socials. And then, bam!

“Hi!”

These two images appeared. One with the artist in a monochrome outfit with a silver bandage of some sort over his cheek and “Who hurt you?” text above. On the next slide said that on Monday, Sept 22, he would be hosting a pop up in Los Angeles. And then, just 24 hours before the event is supposed to start, he then posted that attendees are able to listen the first single of his new sound. On that morning, another image appeared on his pages. “WHAT IS HAPPENING?” was echoing amongst many if not all Madeon supporters.

The day of the pop up arrives. Like clockwork, fans began lining up. Those who got in had to sign a waiver before entering. Small groups were let in one by one to see an open warehouse-ish event space with no lighting except a one red hued bulb in the center of the room. Perched on top of speakers sat Madeon, still, clothed in black, mysterious. He posed laying down on his back, propped up on his elbows and appeared to be reading a book. The new single is playing on the speakers. I’ll let the video do the talking below (thank you to the fans who were able to grab footage, it’s beautifully done):

New Era Has Arrived

Attendees were also handed a zine that contained more images and wording. Take a look at the Reddit link below to view more of the details. Inside the zine has more cryptic wording but also some hints to what is to come at Red Rocks.

Now, as far as the new era sound goes, the Internet was ablaze with what to call it. Some said grunge, some said metal. But it seems like he’s going towards a more punk era, especially after retweeting this on X:

The event’s reviews look wildly successful and many fans embracing this darker look from Madeon; especially when Good Faith and Adventure both had a more bright and uplift colored aesthetic and vibe. It also appears that the new single is called, ‘Hi!’. The lyrics for the song appear in the zine along with a hint about a special guest at the Red Rocks show (again, take a look at the zine, it’s fascinating).

Thankfully, Madeon just announced that the track is being released on September 24th at midnight EST! No other concrete details have emerged including the name of the album, which we’ve all been speculating about for all these months and the theories are hilarious (shoutout the subreddit). We will know more soon enough as the Red Rocks show is in just over 2 weeks! HAPPY MADEON ERA 3 everyone! This guy really does know he’s doing, not afraid to take risks, and it’s amazing to see him evolve from the Nantes, France remix competition winner in 2010 to this established, engaging, and respected artist.

And you know what else? We have a feeling this era’s merchandise is about to be FANTASTIC as well.
