Josh Wink’s “I’m Ready” Returns with a Modern Rework from Marco Faraone
Thirty years after its original release, Josh Wink’s seminal classic “I’m Ready” returns. Released under his Size 9 alias, it returns in a striking new form as a forward-thinking rework by Marco Faraone. It is out now on Factory 93 Records.
The History
Originally released in the mid-1990s, “I’m Ready” became a defining moment in underground dance music. Its stripped-down groove, hypnotic vocal refrain, and raw, no-nonsense energy bridging early techno, house, and the era’s emerging club culture. Central to its impact was the track’s extended snare roll-an elongated, tension-building element that helped set a template for countless records that followed. It has since resurfaced as a defining feature in today’s modern techno sound. The record’s minimalism and attitude made it a secret weapon in DJ bags and a touchstone for producers across generations.

The Rework
Faraone’s rework treats the original with clear reverence while firmly repositioning it for contemporary floors. The iconic vocal remains the gravitational center, framed by a tougher, more restrained groove that leans into tension and negative space rather than nostalgia. Muscular low-end, crisp rolling percussion, and carefully controlled builds echo the DNA of the original. An original where patience, pressure and repetition do the heavy lifting-while subtle synth modulation nods to its late-’90s roots.
Rather than overhauling the record, Faraone strips it back and sharpens it, allowing the mantra-like vocal, groove, and tension arcs to breathe. The result feels timeless rather than retro-engineered for long blends, peak-time control, and modern club systems. All this done while subtly reaffirming why those original structural choices still resonate today.
Out now via Factory 93 Records, the remix bridges the label’s forward-leaning techno ethos with a foundational moment in underground dance history. It also reaffirms “I’m Ready” as a record that continues to evolve-while preserving the elements that made it influential in the first place.
