Ableton Live 12.4 Adds Link Audio, Better Stem Separation, And Push Updates

Ableton Live 12.4 has arrived as a free update for all Live 12 users, centered on a singular, powerful vision: creating a more cohesive ecosystem that bridges the gap between Live, Push, Move, and Note. By focusing on connectivity and streamlined recording, this release aims to remove the technical friction that often interrupts the creative process.

Link Audio: A New Standard for Connectivity

The standout feature of this update is undoubtedly Link Audio. This technology allows compatible devices to stream audio to one another in real time over a local network. For users operating within the Ableton ecosystem, this means audio from external devices can now appear directly as an input within Live or on Push. This eliminates the need for complex hardware setups, extra cables, or manual latency compensation, allowing creators to capture ideas with unprecedented speed.

On Push Standalone, Link Audio enables the reception of audio from individual channels or the main output of other compatible hardware. Furthermore, Move and Note now support Link Audio, ensuring that sketches and multi-channel recordings can be transferred into a full production environment with minimal effort.

Refining Stem Separation and Device Performance

Live 12.4 also introduces a more surgical approach to Stem Separation. Users can now perform separations on specific time selections within the Arrangement View, rather than being forced to process an entire clip. Additionally, the ability to combine selected stems back into a single clip provides a cleaner workflow for those looking to isolate or remove specific elements, such as vocals, without cluttering their project with excessive tracks.

The update also breathes new life into several classic devices. Erosion now features continuous blending between sine and noise modulation, alongside real-time spectrum visualization. Meanwhile, the Chorus-Ensemble and Delay devices have received updates to their modulation capabilities, offering producers more granular control over their sound design.

Educational Integration and Hardware Expansion

Recognizing the learning curve inherent in professional software, Ableton has replaced the traditional Help View with a new “Learn View.” This system integrates short videos, written tutorials, and trackable lessons directly into the interface, providing a more intuitive path for newer users to master complex workflows.

Hardware users will also benefit from expanded MIDI mapping capabilities on Push Standalone and deeper parameter access for Max for Live on both Push 2 and Push 3. With Move 2.0 and Note 2.0 launching in tandem, the 12.4 update solidifies a unified experience that prioritizes efficiency, allowing artists to spend less time managing their setup and more time focused on the music itself.
