Caroline Polachek is back with new music. The artist’s latest single, Billions, dropped today (9 February) alongside an accompanying visual co-directed by Polachek and her frequent collaborator Matt Copson. Billions was produced by Polachek and Danny L Harle.
The musician has been teasing the new song during recent headline shows in the US and UK. Speaking on the track in a press release, she said: “The overabundance of this world overwhelms me. Sometimes it seems like ultimate tragedy, the earth being pillaged and destroyed for it. Sometimes it seems pre-human, beyond morality, sublime. I don’t pick sides, I just live here, with you. How does it feel, being so rich?”
Billions will be released on 7″ vinyl. The B-side features a vocal rework of Polachek’s 2020 track Long Road Home, which was a collaboration with Oneohtrix Point Never. Find out more about the vinyl release here.
Last year, Polachek joined forces with Charli XCX and Christine and the Queens on a song entitled New Shapes. It served as a taster of XCX’s forthcoming album, Crash. Polachek also released a solo single entitled Bunny is a Rider. The song featured in our Tracks of the Year list. In our write-up, we described it as: “one of the most stark and immediate pop songs of the year”.
We caught up with Polachek last summer to discuss the song’s creation, her collaborators and how the pandemic affected her creativity. Read the full interview here.
