Digital members club for womxn in music tech launched by Saffron
Saffron have launched a Patreon digital members club.
Saffron is a non-profit organisation working to support and champion female-identifying and non-binary people (womxn) in music technology, challenging the current climate of the industry and offering training in music production, sound engineering and DJing, as well as artist mentoring and development.
Previously running long-term partner projects with the likes of the Arts Council, British Council, PRS Foundation, Red Bull music, Ableton, Spitfire Audio and more, Saffron now present their latest independent project: Saffron Members.
Speaking about the members club, Saffron shared: “The ongoing repercussions of COVID-19 compelled us to look at more concrete methods of supporting our global community of women and non-binary people (womxn) in music tech, as well as ways to ensure a sustainable future for our organisation.
“We were inspired by the learning and togetherness found in the 3 online Tech Dissect sessions we hosted in partnership with Ableton in May and June, with sign-ups from hundreds of folks in over 30 different countries and amazing guest hosts Emmavie, object blue and Yazzus. We felt we had to find a way to continue… and so began the creation of Saffron Members.
“Saffron Members is a tiered digital club on Patreon, providing year-round tools and opportunities for womxn to connect, learn and grow in music tech. Monthly subscriptions are available for womxn to purchase for themselves, or for anyone to purchase as an anonymous ally and ‘pay it forward’. A number of free bursary subscriptions have also kindly been made possible by Abbey Road Studios and Ableton.”

In 2018, EQ50, co-convened by Indra Khera (Mantra) & Natalie Wright (DJ Flight), alongside organising members Natasha Harber (Sweetpea), MC Chickaboo & Alicia Bauer (Alley Cat), launched to support aspiring womxn in the drum & bass scene. In July this year, they launched a 12-month programme to place five womxn producers with an EQ50 mentor, and assign the mentee with one of EQ50’s partner record labels, which include Shogun Audio and Ram Records. During the scheme, successful applicants will recieve regular A&R sessions, production classes with label affiliates, practice DJ sessions in clubs, booking agency masterclasses, and more.
