Dom Dolla – Addicted to Bass
Few tracks hold the kind of cultural weight in Australia that Puretone’s 1998 anthem ‘Addicted To Bass’ does. Now, nearly three decades later, Dom Dolla is breathing new life into the iconic record with his electrifying rework, ‘Addicted To Bass (Dom Dolla Relapse)’, released today.
The remix first surfaced during one of the biggest moments of Dom’s career — his historic headline show at Sydney’s Allianz Stadium last December. That night, Dom became the first electronic artist to headline a stadium in Australia, and the surprise drop of the remix quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the set.
For Dom, revisiting ‘Addicted To Bass’ is more than just a remix — it’s personal. The original track by Josh Abrahams and Amiel of Puretone was a defining soundtrack of his youth.
“This record was literally the soundtrack to my childhood,” Dom explains. “It came out in 1998 and followed me everywhere growing up. Years later, while living overseas, I realized how few people outside Australia actually knew it.”
The idea to revisit the classic resurfaced while preparing for his stadium debut.

“I was digging through old playlists looking for ideas and I just couldn’t move past this one,” he says. “Almost 30 years have gone by, and I really hope this version connects with a new generation the way the original connected with me. The addiction is real.”
Dom’s ‘Relapse’ version keeps the spirit of the original intact while injecting the signature groove that has made him one of the most in-demand producers in dance music. The remix leans into darker club textures, thick basslines, and rolling rhythms while still preserving the instantly recognizable chorus.
Even the creators of the original track have given their stamp of approval. Josh Abrahams praised the remix, saying it uncovers “deeper, steamier layers” of the record while bringing Dom’s “dirty funk groove” into the mix.
The release follows an enormous run for Dom Dolla. Over the past year alone, the Australian producer has stacked up major milestones including a Grammy nomination for Best Remixed Recording for Gorillaz’s ‘New Gold’, multiple ARIA Awards, the success of ‘Dreamin’’ featuring DAYA, collaborations with Kid Cudi on ‘Forever’, and ‘No Room For A Saint’ featuring Nathan Nicholson, written for Apple’s ‘F1 The Movie’ soundtrack.
With ‘Addicted To Bass (Dom Dolla Relapse)’, Dom Dolla isn’t just remixing a classic — he’s reconnecting generations of dance fans with a track that helped shape Australia’s electronic music identity.
And judging by the reaction from crowds worldwide, the addiction is far from over.
