Facebook is making it harder to stream DJ sets from October 1st

Facebook is potentially changing the way it deals with live-streamed DJ sets from October 1st. The social media site has updated its terms of services to make ‘music listening’ live streams a bannable offence. The full updated text reads:

“If you use videos on our Products to create a music listening experience for yourself or for others, your videos will be blocked and your page, profile or group may be deleted. This includes Live.”

While ‘music listening experience’ is a fairly catch-all term, it’s fair to assume that DJs playing sets, either as performances or as more listening or selector streams, will be included in the new TOS. While Facebook has already been policing unauthorised third-party content – usually included in DJ sets – this is an explicit declaration of intent when it comes to music listening and music-focused streams and videos. 

This may mean we’ll see a big uptick in Facebook blocking and deleting DJ streams, and eventually deleting pages. It could also be Facebook getting their terms in order for a big licensing deal for the forever-rumoured Facebook Music. What we do know is Facebook is actively coming out against DJs and DJing – so if you want to get to ensure your streams remain active, for now, Mixcloud Live is probably your best bet.
