Hitoki Trident V3 Review: The Laser Bong That Replaced My Daily Rig

Table of Contents

I didn’t expect to spend this much time talking about a laser bong, but here we are.

The Hitoki Trident V3 showed up in my setup a few weeks ago, and it’s been one of the most reliable pieces I’ve used since. It’s a high-tech smoking device that actually makes sense once you get your hands on it. There’s no torch. There’s no butane. There’s no lighter fluid stink or half-burned hemp wick. You just press a button and it sparks flower with a focused beam of blue light.

Unboxing is, dare I say, luxurious?!

It’s not something I would have searched for on my own, but it’s the only piece I’ve reached for all month. If you’re already using good flower and like your setups to be a little more refined, this one delivers.

No fire means no mess—and way more flavor

The whole idea behind the Trident is simple: replace the flame with a laser and keep the rest of the process intact. It uses a 445nm blue laser to light your bowl inside a sealed ceramic chamber. That chamber sits just above the water filter, which is built into a new magnetized glass base that locks in tight and lifts out easily when you need to refill or clean it.

What comes out the other end is a smooth, water-cooled hit with no extra flavor from fuel or ignition materials. There’s no learning curve when it comes to the laser—it’s controlled by a single button. Five clicks turns it on. Three clicks switch between the heat levels. Red is low, green is medium, and blue is high. The color order might seem out of step if you’re used to red meaning hot, but it actually follows the color of the laser itself.

Most of the time, I stick with green. It hits clean, doesn’t roast the bowl too fast, and feels perfect for cured flower. If I’m using something fresh or want a longer hit, I bump it to blue and toss a little concentrate on top. Red has its place for drier herb or battery saving, but I haven’t needed it much.

Slow draws give the best result, and you don’t need to overpack it

Cleaning kits, replacement bits and bobs, and other lil extras! Very cool

The laser works best with a chill, steady pull. If you’re used to snapping bowls with a torch, the timing here feels more deliberate. You load the ceramic bowl about halfway, tamp it down just a bit, and the laser takes it from there. The draw feels clean and even, with visible smoke building in the chamber as the water starts bubbling.

One thing I noticed right away is how much less flower I’m going through. The burn radius is tight and consistent, and you’re getting everything out of each bowl without overdoing it. I usually clear it in two or three pulls and reload. No waste. No ash overflow. No combustion smell sticking to your hands or the hose.

There’s a carb button right above the water chamber, and it works exactly how you’d expect. Press it, clear the chamber, and you’re good for the next round.

The design updates on the V3 make daily use easier

The biggest changes in the V3 come down to quality-of-life stuff. The old hose used to pick up lint and dust, but the new one feels smoother, easier to wipe down, and a lot more flexible. The glass base now has a lip, so it stays more balanced when you’re passing it around or setting it down between pulls.

The magnetic base clicks in with less effort than the older models, and the weight of the glass gives the whole piece more stability. Everything fits together with a low chance of spills or weird alignment issues. The pieces are easy to take apart, easy to clean, and feel durable.

I’ve been using it on my desk, in the kitchen, and even outside. It doesn’t take up a ton of space and doesn’t feel fragile. If you’ve got pets or people moving around, it holds its ground.

Battery life is high enough that I haven’t had to think about it

Hitoki claims the battery gets about 280 sessions per charge. Based on how often I’ve been using it, I haven’t hit that cap yet. I charged it the day I got it and haven’t plugged it in since. It uses USB-C and supports pass-through charging, so if you do end up running low, you can keep using it while it’s plugged in.

There’s no loud startup sound or flashing sequence. The LED around the top button gives you all the info you need. You’ll know if it’s heating, fully charged, or needs a top-up based on color and blink speed.

This kind of battery behavior makes it a solid choice for anyone who hates downtime or constantly recharging gear. You can bring it to a session, leave it out at home, or use it solo for a few weeks without needing to babysit it.

This one earns the Editor’s Choice award—no question

We only give our Editor’s Choice award to gear that hits every mark with purpose, and the Hitoki Trident V3 deserves the recognition. It delivers standout performance in flavor, airflow, design, battery life, and ease of use. It’s incredibly clean, hard to tip over, low-maintenance, and visually well-built. The heat settings are actually usable. The hits are consistent. The setup takes seconds. The laser feels more practical than showy, and the entire experience fits into a regular smoking routine without feeling complicated or delicate.

There are plenty of cool gadgets out there that look nice for a week and then get shelved. This isn’t one of them. This one stays out on the counter and gets used. Every piece of it feels dialed in for real-world smokers who want better sessions, cleaner hits, and gear that lasts. That’s why it gets the badge.

Final thoughts: it’s part of the routine now

Not going to lie, the bag this rig ships with is one of my favorite things about it.

I’ve got a lot of gear in rotation, but this one earned a permanent spot. The laser part sounds wild until you’ve used it a few times. Then it feels normal. It’s not about novelty—it’s about function. Every piece has a purpose, and once it’s in your flow, it makes a lot of other options feel like a step backwards.

The Trident V3 is simple to use, easy to maintain, and delivers consistently strong results. It’s built to last, and it fits the kind of lifestyle where your setup matters. If flower is part of your routine and you want cleaner hits without changing the ritual, this is probably your next favorite piece.
