Magnetic Mix 249: RAYZIR

Amsterdam’s RAYZIR is all about rhythm—whether it’s his razor-sharp productions, high-energy DJ sets, or the percussive grooves that define his signature sound. With a background steeped in salsa, Surinamese kawina, and kaseko, his music channels deep-rooted influences into the kinetisicm of modern house and techno.

Fresh off a well-earned break in Thailand, he’s back in full force with Guacamolly, his latest EP on The Martinez Brothers’ Cuttin’ Headz. Built around rolling basslines, acid-laced leads, and tribal-infused percussion, the release reinforces his reputation as a key player in the new wave of groove-driven club music.

Beyond the studio, RAYZIR is shaping the future of the scene through ZIRCLE, his label and creative platform, which recently expanded into events and fashion. With a growing international presence and recognition from names like Marco Carola, Jamie Jones, and 1001Tracklists’ Future of Dance, his momentum is undeniable.

We caught up with RAYZIR to talk about his musical DNA, his approach to performance, and what’s next for ZIRCLE. He’s also delivered an exclusive mix—expect deep, rolling cuts with serious energy.

Welcome to Magnetic Magazine RAYZIR! How’s 2025 been for you so far?

Just came back from a needed holiday in Thailand. All charged up for what’s coming. Especially with thE release of my solo EP on Cuttin’ HeadZ. I’ve also been working on expanding my label and brand ZIRCLE and launching a new clothing line.

Your new Guacamolly EP blends acid, tech, and tribal house elements. Could you elaborate on your approach to integrating these styles?

My upbringing exposed me to a variety of music, particularly percussion-heavy genres like salsa, bachata, and Surinamese kawina and kaseko. I incorporate elements from these styles and blend them into electronic music, creating an accessible yet rhythmically rich sound with respect to my roots.

You’ve received support from artists like Marco Carola and Jamie Jones. How have these endorsements influenced your trajectory?

Having support from major artists helped to gain more respect and recognition from the scene. It definitely fuels motivation and opens doors. The Martinez Brothers, who invited me to play at ADE after confirming the EP with them, was an amazing piece of recognition.

With releases on labels such as Elrow and Nervous, how do you select the platforms for your music?

I focus on labels that align with my sound and artistic vision. Being signed to Cuttin’ Headz, for example, felt like a natural fit because of my percussion-based sound and groove.

Your live sets incorporate multiple turntables and live vocals. What motivates this multifaceted approach to performance?

DJing is more than just playing music, for me it’s an art form. Watching artists like Benny Rodrigues and DJ Chuckie early on inspired me to master turntablism and live performance, allowing me to add unique elements like live vocals and on-the-spot drum programming.

As the founder of ZIRCLE, what objectives do you aim to achieve in exploring cultural identity within electronic music?

ZIRCLE was created to highlight cultural elements within electronic music while breaking down barriers for emerging artists. With ZIRCLE I hope to not only pave the way, but to leave a legacy. After being for over 15+ years in the industry, I noticed some obstacles and have some experience and knowledge that I hope to share with the upcoming generation of artists.

Tell us about the mix you’ve put together for us – any specific tracks you’d like to highlight?

I had a lot of fun putting this together! Two tracks I would highlight are the two final ones. Drop Thiz and Guacamolly. Part of my solo upcoming EP on Cuttin’ Headz.

Being named among 1001Tracklists’ ‘Future of Dance’ artists, how do you perceive your role in the evolving electronic music landscape?

Being recognized as one of the 101 ‘Future of Dance’ artists was a huge honor. It validated my work and pushed me to continue evolving as an artist. The nomination also led to further recognition the following year where they selected me again.

What’s next for RAYZIR?

Growing ZIRCLE as a brand and steady event. We sold out our first event in BRET, Amsterdam, and have more dates confirmed. I would love to take ZIRCLE abroad and slowly build the legacy.
For me personally I’m focused on making a lot of new music, but focusing more now on the quality of music then the quantity.
