Michael Aldag’s “Crying in the Club” EP: A Heartfelt Synth-Pop Journey with a stunning retro influence
Michael Aldag is at his electronic-pop best on this new EP
Returning with a deliberately electronic-influenced, raw new EP Crying in the Club, Michael Aldag shares a poignant collection of synth-pop tracks that delve into the complexities of love, loss, and fleeting connections. Co-written and produced with Robin Stjernberg, the EP is deeply influenced by a recent breakup, lending an immediate and raw emotional depth to each song, all wrapped in a shimmering, 80s-inspired production.
“’Crying in the Club’ is an EP that will likely change the course of music history forever. I am excited to see the seismic reaction to yet another 5 track project about someone’s ex-girlfriend. People have called it ‘visionary’, others have called it ‘profound and brave’, i just call it ‘mine’.”– Michael Aldag
The lead single, “3minutes,” perfectly encapsulates the EP’s sound, striking a balance between intimate minimalism and rich, retro textures. Aldag’s vocals take center stage, allowing his lyrics to breathe as he explores relational tension and longing. The chorus bursts with layered vocals, driving percussion, and atmospheric synths, creating an undeniable 80s vibe. Aldag himself explains the track’s personal inspiration, stating it refers to “the length of a song that prevented me from reaching my ex-girlfriend on a club dance floor. Nothing else.”
Beyond “3minutes,” the EP features tracks like “Happy” and “Saturday,” each contributing to a cohesive narrative of heartbreak and self-reflection. Aldag’s signature blend of infectious sound, captivating vocals, brutal honesty, and self-deprecating humor shines through, solidifying “Crying in the Club” as an emotionally resonant and deeply personal project.
