New Utrecht festival, Birds of Paradise, announces 2022 line-up
The new five-day festival will feature custom-tailored performances from five different acts.
Birds of Paradise is a new event featuring five days of residencies. The programme will cover a range of genres, from indie pop to electronic and contemporary classical.
Pianist and composer Lambert is set to team up with Tilburgean guitarist Bram Stadhouders and percussionist Luca Marini on the first day. The trio will create an improvised performance. Avant-pop musician Thomas Avier will head up the second residency with a modular project called Glossalia. The artist will collaborate with filmmaker Matthijs Vuijk on the visuals.
Actress has been announced for the third residency, which will see him debut a new performance called Observing Complexity: Systems Theory & The Doctor Bird. The next day, on 12 March, festival-goers can expect to experience pieces from eight-member collective Roomful of Teeth. The last residency will be rounded off by REDO, who’ll be joined by percussionists and producers Dominique Vleeshouwers and Binkbeats.
Birds of Paradise is set to take place at TivoliVredenburg, in Utrecht, on 9-13 March. Head to the festival’s site for tickets, and watch a performance from Actress with London Contemporary Orchestra below.
