RFK Stadium Redevelopment That Could Reshape Project Glow
Washington’s RFK Stadium site is officially moving into its next chapter. The Washington Commanders football team has selected global architecture firm HKS to lead the complete redevelopment of the 180-acre campus. This project carries a projected cost of $2.7 billion. Construction begins in spring 2027, and completion is set for 2030. The new plan will impact everything from sports, housing, entertainment, and festivals like Project Glow.
What the Redevelopment Includes
The new RFK Stadium will seat 65,000 people and feature a full roof. This design allows year-round use for games, concerts, and major live events. The area around the stadium will also change in major ways. In detail, developers plan to add 5,000 to 6,000 homes, affordable housing, community spaces, and a large new riverfront zone. The existing youth sports fields will remain to support local programs. Altogether, the design focuses on walkability, transit access, sustainability, and a better connection to the Anacostia River.
How This Affects Project Glow
Project Glow uses the RFK grounds each spring to host one of the East Coast’s most popular dance music festivals. The redevelopment creates a different festival landscape. In 2030, A completed stadium could allow future main stages indoors or outdoors with advanced lighting, improved production, and a new experience all around. Additional green spaces and public areas also create flexible layouts for multi-stage setups. Festival traffic, parking, and metro access should improve as the site becomes more efficient.

In the end, the RFK grounds will begin new operations with a new stadium, making it possible that Project Glow will have to search for a different location due to affordability, schedule conflicts, and more. New location or not, Project Glow will have some major changes in 2027. Currently, the festival curators have no announcement at this time, and their 2026 edition of Project Glow has no changes.
