2022 Grammy awards postponed indefinitely due to Omicron concerns

This year’s Grammy Awards ceremony has been postponed due to renewed concerns around COVID-19 in the US.

The show, which was due to be the 64th edition of the annual event, had been scheduled to take place on 31st January, but The Recording Academy and broadcaster CBS have now confirmed this will not be the case, citing increasing transmission of the Omicron variant in the US as the reason for the postponement.

In a joint statement, they said: “The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority. Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant, holding the show on January 31st simply contains too many risks.”

Nominations for this year’s awards were revealed in November, with the likes of David Guetta, Black Coffee, James Blake and Caribou appearing among the artists up for awards.

Jay-Z became the most nominated artist for the awards of all time upon the announcement of the nominees.
