Public Enemy announce new album on Def Jam, 'What You Gonna Do When The Grid Goes Down?'
Public Enemy have a new album coming out on Def Jam next month.
Titled ‘What You Gonna Do When The Grid Goes Down?’, it’s Public Enemy’s first album for Def Jam, the label that they debuted on, in over two decades.
“Cultural Institutions are important,” Chuck D said of Def Jam. “Being an integral part of one is an honour bestowed and to uphold. Public Enemy songs are forever sonic prints in the sands of time. And it’s time — it’s necessary — to bring the noise again from a place called home. Def Jam. Fight The Power 2020.”
Flavor Flav added: “Def Jam is like the house we grew up in. It’s cool to be home.”
Alongside the album’s announcement, the group shared a 2020 remix of their classic, ‘Fight The Power’, which you can check out below.
The group have described the song as “an unflinching statement about the destruction the current administration has unleashed on the country and its people. [It] speaks truth to power while urging people to fight against racism, injustice and oppression with their vote.”
Def Jam will release ‘What You Gonna Do When The Grid Goes Down?’ on Friday, September 25th.
In July, Chuck D spoke out against authority, describing many institutions as “misinformative”, in an interview with NME.
Earlier this year, Chuck D and Flavor Flav were embroiled in a war of words which resulted in Flav being fired from the group. Chuck D later revealed however that the disagreement was a hoax.
