New database for women and non-binary producers launched

The directory, called In the Key of She, spotlights women and non-binary electronic artists.

Launched by DJ, producer and university professor Samantha Parsley – under her DJ name Dovetail – In the Key of She features over 250 artists, listed alphabetically and organised by genre. The resource has been created to address the gender imbalance in the industry and hopes to help promoters and labels to diversify their line-ups.

In a statement on the site, the team wrote: “This directory is designed to help you discover new music from female and non-binary electronic music producers.” Whilst other directories highlighting gender minorities within music exist, such as female:pressure, Black Artist Database and the Trans and Non-binary Creatives Database, In the Key of She is billed as the first of its kind to focus solely on female, trans and non-binary electronic producers.

Artists featured in the directory include VTSS, India Jordan, Chippy Nonstop, Ellen Allien, Shy One, Shygirl and Kelly Lee Owens. You can access the database here.
