Applicants can apply for either $5,000 or $10,000 to support their studies, with aims to “close the gender gap in the recording industry.”

In a statement, We Are Moving The Needle said: “SOPHIE’s legacy is a beacon of inspiration to countless creators and her innovations continue to shape the future of music. We are thrilled to celebrate her indelible mark as it lives on in the next generation of trailblazers.”

Representatives for SOPHIE announced the new grant on Instagram, writing: “Alongside @wearemovingtheneedle, we are proud to announce this scholarship fund in Sophie’s name.”

“Sophie was passionate about the future of music, and, just like she did, we can’t wait to see many more women, trans and non-binary creators change the game,” they add.

The SOPHIE Scholarship Fund will contribute towards tuition fees, course expenses such as books and supplies, and other costs related to applicant’s studies.

Applications for the SOPHIE Scholarship Fund close on Sunday, April 27 (11:59PM EST), with awardees announced by May 26. You can apply here.
