Melbourne Instruments Brings Deep Logic Pro Control to ROTO-CONTROL

Melbourne Instruments has rolled out advanced Logic Pro integration for its ROTO-CONTROL motorised MIDI controller, answering one of the most consistent requests from users since the hardware launched. Already well regarded for its tight integration with Ableton Live and Bitwig Studio, ROTO-CONTROL now brings the same level of tactile, motorised control to Apple’s flagship DAW through a free firmware update.

ROTO-CONTROL is built around eight touch-sensitive motorised knobs paired with high-resolution displays and RGB buttons, which allows parameters to physically move, reset, and morph in real time. That concept becomes especially powerful inside Logic Pro, where instant recall and hands-on feedback can remove much of the friction that comes from mouse-driven workflows. Instead of guessing where a parameter sits or opening multiple plugin windows, the controller reflects the session directly under your fingers.

Hands-On Mixing, Plugin Control, and Smart Controls

In MIX mode, ROTO-CONTROL mirrors Logic Pro sessions automatically, pulling in track names, colors, and order while offering immediate control over volume, pan, sends, and automation. Track selection, mute, solo, and record arm functions are all accessible directly from the hardware, which makes navigating larger projects faster and more intuitive. Dedicated track focus keeps attention where it belongs without breaking flow.

PLUGIN mode extends that immediacy into instruments and effects, allowing users to browse Logic plugins directly from the controller and map parameters using simple touch-and-learn gestures. Once mapped, controls are stored on the hardware itself, which means they remain available across projects and systems without additional setup. Each plugin can access multiple pages of controls, making it viable to work deeply without reaching for a mouse.

Logic’s Smart Controls are also fully supported, with up to sixteen parameters mapped automatically. This works well for macro-style workflows, where multiple parameters move together, and it keeps ROTO-CONTROL useful across synths, effects chains, and MIDI processing without constant remapping.

Motorised Control That Fits Modern Logic Workflows

Beyond mixing and plugins, ROTO-CONTROL integrates transport controls directly into the hardware, covering playback, recording, looping, and punch-in functions from any mode. Users can also customize labels, colors, haptic response, and step behavior per control, tailoring the surface to their personal workflow rather than adapting their workflow to the controller.

What makes this update matter is both its compatibility and its depth. Logic Pro users now get a genuinely tactile, motorised experience that feels responsive and deliberate, rather than a generic MIDI layer sitting on top of the software. Instant recall, physical feedback, and tight session awareness make ROTO-CONTROL a practical extension of the DAW rather than a novelty.

For producers and engineers working primarily in Logic Pro, this update turns ROTO-CONTROL into a serious hands-on companion that encourages faster decisions, clearer focus, and more time spent listening instead of clicking.
