Inside Miami Music Week’s Most Unexpected Venue: Black Coffee At Hialeah Park Racetrack
Every Miami Music Week introduces new stages and new takeovers, but few feel as ambitious as Open Air at the Racetrack at Hialeah Park Casino. The historic property, long associated with thoroughbred racing and Miami’s golden age of leisure, will host its first-ever electronic music event when Black Coffee headlines the venue during this year’s celebrations.
Presented by Club Space, this event reimagines the sprawling racetrack grounds as an immersive outdoor concert environment, with the stage set directly on the track and surrounding areas including the Grandstands and Clubhouse transformed into viewing and gathering spaces.
From Racing Landmark to Open-Air Dancefloor
Few locations in South Florida carry the cultural weight of Hialeah Park. Opened in 1922, the racetrack initially debuted as a greyhound track before quickly evolving into a horse-racing institution under the Miami Jockey Club. Following a devastating hurricane in 1926, the property was rebuilt into a grand Mediterranean-style complex that soon earned global recognition as a winter playground for the elite.
Throughout the mid-20th century, Hialeah Park became one of the most glamorous sporting destinations in the United States. Hollywood figures, politicians, and international travelers filled its stands, while generations of jockeys and trainers shaped the history of American racing on its track.
The property’s significance extended beyond sport. In 1979 it was officially added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, preserving its architectural legacy and cultural impact. Even today, hundreds of flamingos still inhabit the infield lagoon, continuing a tradition that has existed on the grounds for more than a century.
While thoroughbred racing at Hialeah concluded in 2001, the property entered a new era in 2013 when the opening of Hialeah Park Casino revitalized the site as an entertainment and nightlife destination. That evolution now expands further with Miami Music Week.
Black Coffee, one of the most influential artists in modern house music, brings a sound uniquely suited to the environment. Known for weaving Afro-house rhythms, jazz textures, and global percussion into long, immersive DJ sets, the Grammy-winning artist has become synonymous with open-air musical experiences.
For one evening during Miami Music Week, the historic racetrack will transform once again, not for horses or wagers, but for thousands of dancers moving together beneath the Miami sky.
