Björk’s new album may arrive this summer
Björk‘s new album will “probably” be released this summer, the artist has confirmed.
The Icelandic musician has discussed the new record, her forthcoming Cornucopia concerts in California and her lockdown experience in a pair of interviews.
Speaking to The Mercury News earlier this week (19 January), Björk revealed the forthcoming album is pencilled for release this summer. However, this timeline depends on “the speed of publishing in 2022”. She also revealed that the plan was to finish the album before she embarked on her Cornucopia tour. “Then a couple of the team got Covid-19, so I kind of had to juggle a lot of things,” she admitted. “But I think we kind of got back on the horse. Yeah, so it’s finishing really nicely.”
Elsewhere, Björk told LA Weekly that the record “should probably come out in the summer.” She also explained that she finds it tricky to discuss her releases while she’s still making them, stating: “It isn’t until a few months later that I can look in the mirror and pretend there was a logic to it the whole time.”
That said, the musician has previously described her tenth studio album as an at-home, “living room” listening record. In an interview with Icelandic broadcaster RÛV last year, Björk said the project sounds like “a man who was headbanging, then sat down again and had another glass of red wine, and everyone is home by 10 o’clock, done with the dancing and everything”.
Back in December, Björk made an appearance in the first trailer for Robert Egger’s Viking thriller The Northman. Watch the trailer here and revisit the Björk cover story.
