Black Hole Recordings Releases ‘Hypnotised presents Progressive Trance’ Compilation
Black Hole Recordings has added a new chapter to its Hypnotised compilation series with ‘Hypnotised presents Progressive Trance’, a 27-track collection dedicated to the leaner, more meditative side of trance. It features music from Tiësto, Solarstone, Nalin & Kane, Laurent Verronez, Cass & Slide, Starecase, DJ Remy, Max Graham, Mark Otten, Perry O’Neil, King Unique, Lustral, DJ Ton T.B. and more.
Progressive trance took shape in the 1990s as trance in its purest early form, built on more considered tempos, long breakdowns and detailed, largely vocal-free productions. The compilation traces how the sound began in Germany through artists such as Oliver Lieb, Nalin & Kane, Joker Jam and Junk Project, was quickly adopted in the UK, and was then carried forward by the Netherlands after 2000.
The first disc covers the 1990s. It opens with Junk Project’s ‘Composure’ and includes Cass & Slide’s ‘3Tyrants@thebonaparte’ in a 2025 remaster, Azzido Da Bass’ ‘Dooms Night’ in its Timo Maas remix, Lustral’s ‘Everytime’ in the Nalin & Kane extended mix and Red Sun’s ‘This Love’, a release from Hooj Choons owner Red Jerry.
The second disc, ‘2000s / Indoor’, brings together World Clique’s ‘Different Signs’, Private Taste’s ‘First’, Perry O’Neil’s ‘Cold Fusion’, Solarstone vs Scott Bond’s ‘3rd Earth’, Starecase’s ‘Hopeless’, DJ Remy’s ‘Backstabber’ and Max Graham’s ‘Falling Together’. The third disc, ‘2000s / Outdoor’, opens with Tiësto’s remix of Delerium’s ‘Innocente (Falling In Love)’ and continues with Lolo’s ‘Extended Horizon’, Cultivate’s ‘Broken Pieces’, Mark Otten’s ‘So Serene’, As One’s ‘Forever Waiting’, King Unique’s ‘Sugarhigh’ and Karada’s ‘Last Flight’.
Along the way, the release highlights the labels that defined the sound, from Hooj Choons, Automatic Records and Hope Recordings in the UK to Black Hole Recordings, Electronic Elements and Armind, and Banshee and Bonzai.
The compilation follows earlier Hypnotised editions including the Balearic trance edition and ‘A Journey Through American Trance Music 1992-2002’. Black Hole was founded by Tiësto and Arny Bink in 1997, and Bink previously spoke to us about the label’s journey.
‘Hypnotised presents Progressive Trance’ is out now on all digital platforms, as well as on limited edition CD and vinyl.
