Bonobo shares video for ‘Shadows’, taken from new album, ‘Fragments’: Watch
Bonobo has released a new video for ‘Shadows’, a track from his new album, ‘Fragments’, which was released last week (Friday 14th January) on Ninja Tune. You can watch it below.
‘Shadows’ was released earlier this month and features Jordan Rakei, which Bonobo described as “old school, Detroity, Moodymann and Theo Parrish-inspired.”
The album is the artist’s first in four years, and features collaborations with Jamila Woods, Joji, Kadhja Bonet, Jordan Rakei, O’Flynn and Miguel Atwood-Ferguson. It follows the success of the LA-based DJ’s 2017 album, ‘Migration’, which reached number one on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Album chart.
‘Fragments’ includes the lead single ‘Rosewood’, which landed at number three on Spotify’s Best Electronic Songs of 2021, as well as ‘Tides’ and ‘From You’ — both released at the end of 2021.
Speaking with DJ Mag for our December cover feature, Bonobo cited the rave and hardcore elements of current dance music as influences for the album. He said, “It’s all come full circle now — that emotional rave music. I think there’s some really fun stuff happening at the moment; this resurgence of breakbeat, like the slow, deconstructed junglist kind of stuff.”
The release comes after Bonobo earned two 2021 GRAMMY nominations in the Best Dance/Electronic Recording category, making him a five-time GRAMMY nominee.
In addition to the LP, the artist has also confirmed a world tour next year, including three dates at London’s Royal Albert Hall in May. He’s also set to play Birmingham, Manchester, Brighton, Leeds, and Nottingham in the UK, followed by European and North American legs.
Bonobo’s 2010 ‘Black Sands’ made it into DJ Mag’s list of albums that defined the decade. You also can revisit DJ Mag’s interview with Bonobo for our December 2021 cover feature, where he discussed his influences behind ‘Fragments’, here.
