Coachella 2020 Canceled Due to Uncertain Future of the Coronavirus

This year’s postponed Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival has unfortunately been canceled due to the uncertain future of the coronavirus. The world-renowned music festival has yet to make an announcement. However, Billboard has confirmed that it will not take place in 2020.

According to a statement made by Riverside County Pubic Health Officer Dr. Cameron Kaiser to the Los Angeles Times, concerts will be unable to take place at Indio, California in October. The rescheduled Coachella dates were expected to take place on October 9th – 11th and 16th – 18th.

“I am concerned as indications grow that COVID-19 could worsen in the fall,” Kaiser shared with the publication. “In addition, events like Coachella and Stagecoach would fall under Governor Newsom’s Stage 4, which he has previously stated would require treatments or a vaccine to enter. Given the projected circumstances and potential, I would not be comfortable moving forward.”

Next year’s Coachella dates have yet to be announced. However, many sources have told Billboard that officials at Goldenvoice are determining what to do for next year’s event. There are currently two options under consideration. The first is whether to have Coachella take place in April 2021 with a limited-capacity to maintain the safety and health of its attendees. The second option is to move the festival to October 2021 and allow a higher-capacity comeback. A final decision has yet to be made; they are waiting to see what the pandemic will look like in the long-term.
