Composer Marc Sinan to present multimedia installation, At First, at Berlin’s Humboldt Forum

At First features musical, video and performance contributions from Kettly Noël and the Djiguiya Orchestra, among others.

A new performance-based installation is heading to Humboldt Forum – a newly-opened museum housed in Berlin’s reconstructed Royal Palace.

Entitled At First – or Am Anfang – the project was conceived by Marc Sinan, a Berlin-based composer and musician. Sinan worked with Haitian, Mali-based choreographer and dancer Kettly Noël, the Djiguiya Orchestra, the Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart and his own independent ensemble on the project, which explores both myths of creation from West Africa and Europe and scientific narratives surrounding the world’s creation through the mediums of song, dance and video art. At First brings together traditional Malian music and with contemporary styles rooted in Europe.

Museum visitors can engage with the project in varying ways. On 10-12 February, At First will manifest as a video installation. Entry will be free, with the installation open during daytime hours. In the evening, musicians and dancers from Mali and Germany will head to the museum to perform live in the installation.

Tickets for the evening shows are on sale now via the Humboldt Forum website.
