DJ Psychiatre Moves Into Jazz with Introspective & Technically Impressive New EP
It’s always a pleasure to witness an artist arriving at the next logical chapter of their story. With “Moving Into Jazz,” DJ Psychiatre opens a new page – one that grooves, shimmers, and resonates.
The French producer, known by day as psychiatrist Sylvain Creton and by night as a vinyl-collecting master DJ and live streamer, drops this four-tracker on Last Year at Marienbad, a label that seems perfectly suited for this introspective house odyssey. The label describes this EP as “four groovers of the highest order,” and we’d be inclined to agree.
Opening with the title track, we’re ushered in via dusty Rhodes chords and filtered vocal stabs, with jazz motifs and melodies slowly building throughout. It’s a slow burn that rewards patience, a track that’s highly textured, cinematic, and full of life. “Those DJs” leans more rhythmic, with groovy drums, glimmering, angelic pads, and acidic synth lines pushing the sound of the EP even further. It’s a track that really pulls you in and keeps you engrossed for the entire runtime.
“Iced Lemon” opens up the B-side with arpeggios slicing through with precision, anchored by euphoric pads and a quiet mastery of dynamics that’s become Creyon’s signature. The closer, “A Trance to Remember,” is just that: upbeat, emotive, and full of flourishes. For a record that’s full of diverse sounds and melodic and rhythmic mastery, it’s the perfect closer.
This EP is DJ Psychiatre at his absolute best. Whether producing, spinning vinyl on Twitch for his Sunday Selecta series, contributing to charity-focused compilation albums, or fundraising for mental health through marathon streams, he’s an artist driven by compassion and curiosity. You can really hear that care and creativity in this project.
“Moving Into Jazz” is a triumph of an EP. With a unique blend of heart and technical skill, it’s bound to leave a lasting mark on the scene.
