Gilles Peterson announces Worldwide FM is pausing new broadcasts

The London station will be running a more minimal service from the end of next month.

Sharing the news, Gilles Peterson wrote, “with regret I’m having to pause Worldwide FM from the end of October. I’m so proud of what has been achieved in the last years 6 years.”

Founded in 2016, Worldwide FM has hosted shows from the likes of Jamz Supernova, TSHA and Tash LC, broadcasting from its home in east London. “WWFM was actually born out of the show I made for the Grand Theft Auto in 2013,” Peterson shared in a statement via Twitter, adding that it “grew to be a real life music and culture platform helping develop a new generation of broadcasters as well as acting as a first base in the development of many new artists.”

The DJ and broadcaster went on to explain that Worldwide FM are hoping to find “a solution to revive it, in the coming year.” Until then, however, the station will be paring back its output.

A further statement from the Worldwide FM team affirmed that the station’s website and Mixcloud will remain online for people to continue listening to their archive of shows. Read the post below.

The news of Worldwide FM’s indefinite hiatus follows on from SWU.FM ceasing broadcasting at the beginning of this month. The Bristol station, which started up during the Covid-19 pandemic, closed on 1 September, citing rising costs and energy bills as the reason for its closure.
