Ibiza clubs may be allowed reopen next month
Ibiza clubs may be allowed to reopen from next month.
According to a new report from Majorca Daily Bulletin, The Nightlife Employer’s Association, Abone, is hoping that clubs and other venues in the Balearic Islands will be allowed to reopen their doors from October following positive meetings with the Balearic government.
Last Thursday (16th), Ibiza Nightlife Manager, José Luis Benítez and Abone President, Miguel Pérez-Marsá met with tourism minister Iago Negueruela to propose the possibility of reopening the sector, with Negeuruela stating that he ‘wants to open all economic sectors in the safest way possible and is aware that the nightlife sector is one of the most affected by the coronavirus restrictions’. Licensed bars and cafés can currently open under the same conditions as hotels, with reduced capacity, a 2am curfew and dancing bans in place.
The proposals for reopening include several limitations, like reduced capacity, the use of masks on dance floor, and table service, with Marsá adding that “finding a formula that garauntees health security and is viable for the business is the priority”.
Just last week, Ibiza lifted coronavirus restrictions on night-time events, meaning that social gatherings between 2am and 6am will now be able to go ahead without restriction. This will remain the case until 29th September, when the situation will be re-evaluated.
The first pilot event on the White Isle took place at the Hard Rock Hotel on Friday 25th June, with 1200 of the island’s key workers invited for a session aimed at testing COVID-19 protocols within nightlife and music settings ahead of clubs being allowed to return en masse. Diario de Ibiza reported that results from the event “conclude that there was no Covid infection” among its 1,236 attendees, who were largely fully vaccinated, and wore masks throughout the event.
