Laurent Garnier hints at quitting touring in new radio interview

Laurent Garnier has hinted that he may stop touring “very soon”.

The legendary French DJ and producer made the comments during an interview with Grégoire Nicolet on France Inter Radio’s Morning Show, yesterday (April 10).

During the interview Garnier reflected on his decades-long career as well as plans for the future, declaring: “I’m going to stop touring like I always have.”

“I’ll still do a few dates, but the idea is to do ten in the year,” he said, indicating his preference for smaller parties and venues where he still has a “place and little things to say”, adding that he doesn’t intend to take slots at “big festivals” going forward.

Garnier commented on his place in the contemporary music scene, sharing fears over becoming a “dusty jukebox.”

“I’ve always told the people I work with that they really need to warn me the day I cross over to the other side of the mountain,” he added. “Is it really relevant to still be behind the decks at 60?”

In 2023, Garnier was forced to cancel a string of shows due to “health reasons” ahead of the release of his LP ’33 Tours Et Puis S’en Vont’.

“Of course, fate would have it that my album will soon be released when I won’t be able to share it with you on the dancefloor, but I can assure you that once this is all over, I’ll be back… in force!” he said in a statement on Instagram.
