Nick Cave announces new project Seven Psalms

The new project features Warren Ellis and is set for release on 17 June.

Today (21 April) Nick Cave has announced his new project Seven Psalms. Written during lockdown, the record is comprised of seven spoken word pieces, and musical compositions made in collaboration with Warren Ellis. It also includes a 12-minute instrumental piece which the duo captured during the recording sessions for their surprise 2021 album Carnage.

In a statement on Seven Psalms, Cave said, “While in lockdown I wrote a number of psalms, or small, sacred songs – one a day for a week. The seven psalms are presented as one long meditation – on faith, rage, love, grief, mercy, sex and praise. A veiled, contemplative offering borne of an uncertain time. I hope you like it.”

The release will be available as a limited edition 10″ vinyl, which can be purchased via the musician’s online store Cave Things. Alongside today’s announcement, Cave has shared a snippet from the release.

This Much I Know to Be True, a new film documenting Cave and Ellis working together on Ghosteen and Carnage, is set for a cinema release on 11 May. Watch a clip from the upcoming documentary, directed by Andrew Dominik, below.
