Founded in 2000, EXIT Festival has its origins in the fight for democracy in Serbia. The inaugural edition was created as a student movement and continued for almost 100 days, held across several stages in the University Park in Novi Sad. This first event ended just before the Yugoslav presidential elections which led to the overthrowing of Slobodan Milošević’s regime on 5 October of that year.
Since its inception, EXIT Festival has stayed true to its roots, setting up the EXIT Foundation in 2008 with a focus on driving social change for young people and launching the environmental campainn Green Guerrilla the following year. In addition to this, 2011 saw EXIT Festival create the first LGBTQ+ stage at a music festival in the region. Elsewhere in the event’s history, in 2020 the festival teamed up with the United Nations World Food Program to launch the Life Stream project, aimed towards helping people experiencing food poverty worldwide.
Over the years, EXIT Festival has hosted the likes of Massive Attack, Cypress Hill, Portishead, Lily Allen, Arctic Monkeys, Sex Pistols, Faithless and Snoop Dogg. This year marks its 21st edition, taking place from 7-10 July at the Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad. Four-day tickets start from £95 and individual day tickets are available from £29.
