Nines jailed for importing cannabis into the UK
Nines, real name Courtney Freckleton, has been given a 28-month jail sentence.
The rapper was charged alongside Jason Thompson, who’s also been sentenced to jail for 28 months. Nines was arrested on 3 June after police raids were carried out at properties across London and Borehamwood, in Hertfordshire. The pair pleaded guilty to drugs and money laundering charges.
The court heard that 28kg of cannabis was imported into the UK from Spain and Poland, and some of the cannabis from Poland was imported inside boilers. Police searches were carried out after authorities managed to infiltrate the encrypted messaging service Encrochat. The service was hacked last year.
Nines has previously served an 18-month sentence for the possession of cannabis with the intent to supply.
The rapper’s last full-length release is 2020’s Crabs in a Bucket, which topped the UK album chart last year.
