Paul van Dyk classic ‘For An Angel’ turns 30

30 years ago, Paul van Dyk delivered a trance anthem that help catapult his career and the genre. Three decades later, fans still flock to his beloved debut single.

When Paul van Dyk released For An Angel in 1994, trance was an underground phenomenon, reserved mainly for DJs and club-goers, rarely making a massive dent in the mainstream. That community was strong and always growing, utilizing the clubs and communities as a means of support and release. Featured on his debut album, 45 RPM, For An Angel served as the lead single and helped him cultivate his own following. In 1998, he gave the track an update, releasing the ‘E-Werk Remix,’ an homage to the club which he often performed.

The new remix would shoot to the top of the UK Dance Chart and serve as a monumental release for both Paul van Dyk and the entire trance genre. As part of the 30th anniversary celebration, van Dyk has released an updated vinyl and digital streaming package for the single. He will also be celebrating the single at Electric Brixton in London on Saturday, December 14th with a special extended set. Fans can grab tickets here and revisit For An Angel below.
