Southbank Centre announces return of SoundState series
The five-day experimental and contemporary classical music festival is set to run from 30 March to 3 April.
Taking place in London’s Southbank Centre, SoundState will platform an eclectic range of new works from the likes of Meredith Monk, London Sinfonietta and a performance of Pauline Oliveros’ works by flautist Claire Chase.
The festival kicks off on 30 March with London Philharmonic Orchestra’s Visions & Utterances. This will include UK premieres by contemporary composers Missy Mazzoli, Rebecca Saunders and Mason Bates, who will present his conceptual orchestral and electronic water-inspired piece Liquid Interference.
Elsewhere, composer and organist Eva-Maria Houben is set to collaborate with GBSR Duo, and vocalist Meredith Monk will present her recent album Memory Games – a retrospective and reimagining of some of her 1980s works.
The upcoming SoundState, which will be the second edition of the festival, has also confirmed the Arditti Quartet and a performance of new works by George Lewis. The Philharmonic Orchestra will close the festival with collaborative performances with Wu Wei and Liza Lim on 3 April.
