Tomorrowland to host virtual festival this summer
Tomorrowland has revealed plans for a virtual festival this summer.
After confirming Tomorrowland’s flagship live event would return to Boom, Belgium in August and September this year, and the success of last year’s virtual Tomorrowland: Around The World event, organisers have shared that another virtual fesitval will take place this summer.
Speaking with Billboard earlier this week, Michiel Beers, co-founder of Tomorrowland, said that organisers were “positive” about this year’s event, although it was a “very complex situation”, and that plans were under way for the second instalment of Tomorrowland: Around The World in July.
Over 1 million people tuned into Tomorrowland’s first virtual festival, which took place in July last year in lieu of the real life event. In a feature for DJ Mag, tech editor Declan McGlynn investigated how Tomorrowland created a revolutionary interactive virtual world in under three months.
Last month, Tomorrowland announced details of its second winter festival, scheduled to take place in March 2022. After being forced to cancel its 2020 and 2021 editions due to the coronavirus pandemic, organisers have scheduled the week of 19th – 26th March 2022 for Tomorrowland’s return to the French ski resort of Alpe d’Huez.
In February, Tomorrowland shared details of a new vinyl box set, featuring definitive tracks from the festival’s 15-year history.
