Robert Pattinson made “ambient electronic music” while dressed in bat suit
In a new interview with GQ, Robert Pattinson reminisces over his time spent filming for The Batman.
Pattinson reveals that whilst filming on set for The Batman, he turned to music production during his downtime. Much of the filming took place on location, on the outskirts of London, and during this time the actor was dressed in the bat suit “all the time”. According to GQ, a tent was set aside for the actor to decompress in. Pattinson says he would pass the time by “making ambient electronic music in the suit, look over the cowl” – otherwise known as the mask.
Across the rest of the interview, Pattinson talks about his other creative passions, such as designing chairs and pursuing photography. He also speaks about where the film industry stands in relation to the zeitgeist, and filmmakers who create subcultures that extend beyond their films. “Movies used to generate the zeitgeist,” Pattinson says. “And now I just find, opposed to music or fashion, movies can’t keep up with the culture.”
Producing ambient sounds on set isn’t the first time Pattinson’s turned to music. Back in 2008, the actor contributed two songs to the Twilight soundtrack, entitled Never Think and Let Me Sign.
The Batman will be released on 4 March 2022.
