Armin van Buuren Honored with Edison Publieksprijs Klassiek Prize

Armin van Buuren has added another Edison Publieksprijs Klassiek prize to his career, with this one coming from the world of classical music. He received the award on October 29th during the Dutch television program Eva where presenter Eva Jinek surprised him with the award.

Van Buuren was selected among a notable group of nominees, including Joep Beving, Ludovico Einaudi, Lang Lang, and Anastasia Kobekina. The win marks van Buuren’s third Edison win overall after previous victories in the Dance category in 2006 and 2020.

From Trance Anthems to Piano

The award recognizes Piano, a project that represents a different side of van Buuren’s musical identity. The album originated in 2018 when the producer began taking piano lessons from composer and pianist Geronimo Snijtsheuvel.

Those lessons birthed a full album featuring 15 piano compositions. Fourteen are original pieces plus an interpolation of Robert Miles’ ‘Children.’ van Buuren recorded the compositions in early 2025 in a single take with string accompaniment.

Piano released on October 31, 2025 following a series of cryptic teasers and an announcement involving Apple Music and Dolby Atmos. The album has since surpassed 18 million streams, and van Buuren has brought pieces to life with onstage piano performances.

This Edison Publieksprijs Klassiek recognition comes as an unexpected addition to a career primarily associated with electronic and trance music. For one of trance’s defining figures, van Buuren now adds another milestone in an already extensive career.
