Avicii tribute week for mental health awareness to air on SiriusXM
A special week of programming to honour Avicii and raise mental health awareness will take place later this month.
Kicing off on Tuesday 8th September, which coincides with the late EDM star‘s birthday and Suicide Prevention Week, The Tim Bergling Foundation and New York radio station, SiriusXM, will pay tribute to Avicii with a series of commentary from collaborators and a showcase of his music.
Alongside the broadcast of an unreleased Avicii set from Japan in 2016, there will be interviews from last year’s tribute concert in Stockholm, and contributions from the likes of Armin van Buuren, Bonn, David Guetta, Joe Janiak, Laidback Luke, Martin Garrix, Nile Rodgers, Rita Ora, Zak Abel, and more.
Speaking about BPM Presents: Avicii Birthday Tribute for Mental Health Awareness, Klas Bergling, Avicii’s father and founder of the Tim Bergling Foundation, said: “Anki and I want to thank Geronimo and SiriusXM for their continued support of Tim’s music and for taking this time to put a spotlight on the global issue of mental health,”
“We want to encourage Tim’s fans and all young people to know that they are not alone. It’s important to talk to someone, a friend or family member or workmate. There is help for any emotional struggle they or their friends may have.”
BPM Presents: Avicii Birthday Tribute for Mental Health Awareness Week will begin on Tuesday 8th September at 12:00PM ET, and broadcast until Sunday 13th September at 9:00PM ET via SiriusXM.
In August, a demo version for video game AVICII Invector: Encore Edition was made available on the handheld Nintendo Switch console, with ‘Pure Grinding’ and Avicii’s own remix of ‘The Nights’ available as levels to play. The full game will be released on 8th September 2020, and 25% of the profits from the sale of the game will go to the Tim Bergling Foundation, the charity set up in the late EDM star’s honour by his parents with a goal to support those working within mental health and suicide prevention.
In May this year, Belgian festival Tomorrowland named Avicii’s ‘Levels’ the biggest track in Tomorrowland history.
Avicii’s ‘TIM’ won the award for Best Album at this year’s International Dance Music Awards.
