Bradford Smith, known to the electronic music world as Deceptaconz, continues to solidify his reputation as a versatile and hard-hitting force in production. Based in Indiana, the independent producer and DJ has spent years refining a signature sound that bridges the gap between high-energy club music and intricate, genre-defying compositions. From his roots in Fort Wayne to stages across the United States, Deceptaconz has gained significant notoriety for his live performances, which notably feature the Human Drum Machine (HDM).

The Creative Spark Behind ‘I Got What You Want’

Deceptaconz’s latest release, ‘I Got What You Want,’ features the lyrical prowess of long-time collaborator EMC Scotty. The track is a masterclass in modern trap, designed specifically to ignite dance floors. Reflecting on the track’s development, Deceptaconz explains, “When I chopped up the melody, I called EMC Scotty to the studio. We came up with the hook together, and she wrote her verse in 15 minutes.”

Evolution of the Human Drum Machine

A central figure in the Deceptaconz live experience is the Human Drum Machine. According to Smith, the partnership was a natural progression. “HDM is an old friend of mine, and he plays percussion on a lot of tracks I produce. So for HDM to join Deceptaconz was natural. Also, the reason why he wears a full mask is because he was abducted by aliens.”

Looking back on his career, Deceptaconz highlights touring with DJ Paul of Three 6 Mafia and producing the track “Bottle Poppa” with Fatman Scoop and KnowleDJ as career-defining moments. When asked about his favorite live equipment, he points to the reliability of CDJs and the MPC, while noting that HDM relies on the Alesis Percussion Pad.

As for what is next, fans can expect more high-octane releases. Deceptaconz confirmed, “We have a new song called ‘We Outside’ dropping in May with Don P from Trillville.” With a relentless work ethic and a sound that refuses to be categorized, Deceptaconz remains an artist to watch in the evolving landscape of electronic music.
